Jason R. Walsh

MITCHELL KILGORE

With more than fifteen years of experience in the Virginia judicial system, Jason R. Walsh brings a steady, analytical, and client-focused approach to criminal defense, administrative law, and family law matters. Known for his objectivity, thorough preparation, and practical decision-making, Jason draws on a deep understanding of the law shaped by years of service within both state agencies and the courts.
Jason’s legal career began in child support enforcement—first in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, and later throughout Southwest Virginia—where he supervised large teams and managed thousands of cases involving complex family, regulatory, and interstate legal issues. His early work established his strength in interpreting and applying statutory and case law, as well as his ability to lead teams with clarity and empathy.

In 2014, Jason was appointed as a Magistrate in the 23rd Judicial District, exercising core judicial responsibilities including probable cause determinations, bail hearings, arrest warrants, and emergency legal processes. His strong judgment and leadership earned him appointment as Chief Magistrate of the 24th Judicial District in 2022. In that role, he oversaw one of Virginia’s largest and most diverse magisterial regions, recruiting and training magistrates, rebuilding an underperforming district, and strengthening relationships across law enforcement agencies, courts, and local government. He also contributed to community and public-safety training initiatives through the Central Virginia Criminal Justice Academy and regional first-responder programs.
Jason earned his Juris Doctor from Cleveland–Marshall College of Law in 2008 and a Bachelor of Arts in History from St. Bonaventure University in 2001. He has been a member of the Virginia State Bar since 2010. Today, Jason brings his extensive judicial and administrative background to representing individuals and families across Southwest Virginia, offering clients a grounded, transparent, and solutions-oriented style of advocacy. Outside the office, Jason spends most of his time as a devoted travel softball dad and enjoys reading history and novels, traveling, and spending time with his family.
