Nick Compton

Nicholas Compton, Nick, hails from Lebanon, Virginia. He attended Council High School and pursued his Bachelor of Arts at The University of Virginia Clinch Valley College. Nick decided that teaching was not the profession for him and decided to go into the family business, and he decided to obtain his law degree from the Appalachian School of Law. Upon graduation, Nick began working with his family firm Compton Law Office, in Lebanon. He started building his career by assisting his father, Eugene Compton, with a wide variety of cases. Additionally, Nick started developing his own practice by representing indigent people on the court appointed list for criminal matters, felony and misdemeanors, as Guardian Ad Litem for children, and parents involving child support issues. After spending seven years with his family, Nick decided that he needed to expand his knowledge and experience.

Nick started working for the Buchanan County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office where he represented Buchanan County as an Assistant or Deputy

Commonwealth’s Attorney until August 31, 2017. During this time, Nick tried numerous murder cases, sexual assault trials and various other jury trials. Nick decided that his time with the Commonwealth’s Office was over and eventually, Senator Ben Chafin convinced Nick to join his firm in Lebanon. Sadly, Senator Chafin passed away and Nick remained with the office working with Delegate Jeff Campbell. Then Jeff was appointed Judge and Nick started working with Delegate Terry Kilgore.

Additionally, Nick is admitted to the United States Supreme Court, the United States Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, the Virginia Supreme Court, and the Virginia Court of Appeals. Nick has several published opinions from the Virginia Supreme Court or the Virginia Court of Appeals. Nick’s practice focuses on domestic relations (divorce and child custody and support matters) and other litigation such as personal injury, real property disputes, issues concerning elder guardianship, some estate matters, and criminal issues. His diverse legal background and practice, along with his hands-on approach, offers a unique and experienced perspective to potential clients.

Outside of work, Nick enjoys spending time with his family, as well as engaging in fishing and hunting. If you speak with him for a few minutes, he is sure to talk about his sons. Often stating, “I work to support my sons’ habits of hunting, fishing and anything else they can swindle me into.
